I'm an Associate Professor in Remote Sensing at the University of Exeter, and I'm based at the Environment and Sustainability Institute at the Penryn Campus in Cornwall.
My PhD was focused on developing proximal remote sensing approaches for calibrating and validating coarser-grained RS data through which I gained a deep understanding of quantitative RS. My research now addresses questions about the relationships between spatial pattern, volumetric structure and landscape function in vegetated and unvegetated systems using fine-grained RS observations, in situ data and computer-based spatial modelling.
I have been lucky to work in many amazing places. I spent a sabbatical at NASA Ames Research Centre in California during 2008, which was an amazing experience. I run an annual international fieldclass to the Eastern Sierra Nevada in California with a large group of year 3 undergraduate environmental scientists and geographers. My research has taken me to 5000 m.a.s.l in the Nepalese Himalaya, to the alpine meadows of Monte Bondone in Italy, the Majadas in Spain, the desolate peatlands of Exmoor, and the beautiful coastline of Cornwall.
My work transcends disciplinary boundaries, and I enjoy collaborating with hydrologists, ecologists, human geographers, computer scientists and artists. I love flying drones for my research, and I enjoy writing. I am a mum to a small girl and a whippet and in my spare time I love to be in the ocean surfing, paddleboarding or swimming. Feel free to contact me via details on my university webpage.
